THE BOOTSHAUS STORY
The Old Danube has always been a place to slow down, get together and spend time by the water. Rowing boats, local rowing clubs and relaxed summer days have been part of life here for generations.
Over the years, the Old Danube has become one of Vienna’s favourite escapes – a place where the city feels a little further away and life moves at a different pace.
Rowing has been part of our family story for many years. Ferdinand Querfeld, who runs Das Bootshaus today, first got into the sport together with his brother Rudolph at rowing club LIA, just a few steps from where Das Bootshaus stands today.
What started here on the Old Danube eventually took them to international competitions. So for our family, this part of Vienna has always been much more than just a beautiful place by the water – it feels like home.
That history is still very much part of Das Bootshaus today. When we turned the former “Neu Brasilien” into Das Bootshaus, we wanted to create something new without losing the character of this special place. A relaxed spot by the water, inspired by the rowing clubs that have always been part of life at the Old Danube.
The design of Das Bootshaus is inspired by traditional rowing clubs, with original rowing pieces we’ve collected over the years throughout the restaurant. They tell a little bit of our story and give the place its character.
For us, Das Bootshaus is a place you can keep coming back to – during summer and winter, for a quick coffee, a long lunch or one of life’s bigger moments.
THE QUERFELD FAMILY
Das Bootshaus is just one part of our family story. Across three generations, the Querfeld family runs ten places in Vienna, each with its own character and personality. Together with our teams, we want them to be places where people simply enjoy spending time – with good food, warm hospitality and fresh ideas for what comes next.
